    Inspirational Quotes

Here are some inspirational quotes from different individuals involved with early childhood education:

"The highest stake of all is our ability to help children realize their full potential."
    ~~Samuel J. Meisels

“Most everyone knows that young children need to be challenged academically, and they need to be exposed to literacy, letters and sounds, and literature at an early age—(however) we really need to have an emphasis on all areas of development (cognitive, social and emotional skills).”
    ~~Samuel J. Meisels

“Part of being who you are has to do with feeling your feelings, which means you'll have a wide range of emotions--not just constant sunshiny happiness.”
    ~~Janet Gonzalez-Mena

"The moment I decided to follow instead of lead, I discovered the joys of becoming part of a small child's world."
    ~~Janet Gonzalez-Mena

" I had a built in passion that it was important to make a real contribution in the world and to fix all the injustices that existed in the world." "So the passion to create a safer, more just world for all kids is there and suppose will be there until I die and maybe even after."
    ~~Louise Derman-Sparks

"I think first and foremost my passion comes from a lot of it is intrinsic motivation that I have for the work that I do. Every day, I go to work and look forward to it because I know the services that I'm providing for children it's to their benefit." I want the children to know "That there is more to life than just what's in their neighborhood."
    ~~Raymond Hernandez

"Having people offer me opportunities and opening doors for me where I feel like now, as I've gotten older, it's my turn to be able to create opportunities for parents and their children"
    ~~Raymond Hernandez

"We as professionals in the early childhood field have an opportunity to shape a child's life for the better."
    ~~Sandy Escobido

"It's not all about you, You have to take your ego out of it, and think about what's best for the child."
    ~~Renatta M. Cooper

"When I think about passion as a person I also embrace who I am; who I am as a woman, as a Latina leader, and what my family has taught me. It creates a foundation for my passion."
    ~~Leticia Lara

    Personal Childhood Web

Growing up, I had several people that loved and supported me. They always encouraged me and wanted the best for me. The five people that I am including in my personal childhood web are my mom, my grandmother, my aunt, my stepdad, and my best friend. Without them, I am not sure where I would be today.

I will start off with my mom. My mom is the most supportive person I know. She is one of my best friends. I am an only child and my mom did everything she could to make sure I was happy. She always told me that I could be whatever I wanted to be. When I was sick, she took care of me. She always encouraged me to do my best in school and always went to school functions and parent-teacher conferences. As a teenager, she refused to let me go out and do what everyone else was doing. She taught me right from wrong. To this day, she is still teaching and inspiring me. I respect her and hope that I am as good of a mother to my children as she is to me.

My grandmother would keep me while my mom worked. When I was little, I loved going to her house. Being an only child, and the youngest grandchild by nine years, I was pretty spoiled by my grandmother. My granny would teach me how to make pies and let me help her. We would go for walks and she would teach me about the past. She always showed me how much she loved and cared about me. She made me feel special. She was there for me when my parents went through a divorce. As my grandmother has gotten older, she has developed alzheimer's disease. As of this moment she still remembers me, but I know the day is coming when she will not recognize me. I just hope that I can be there for her when that times comes like she was there for me when I was younger.

My Grandmother, My Mom, and Me

Another person that I am including in my web is my Aunt Shirley. She is my mom's older sister. She always encouraged me to be independant. Everyone in my family says I should have been her child instead of my mom's because I act more like her than my mom. She and I have a lot of the same beliefs and personality. She is a fighter and always fought for me. She helped raise me. She taught me right from wrong and took me to church. She enouraged me to continue servering the Lord as a I grew and became a teenager, and still continues to encourage me. She is a wonderful person and I am so glad she is in my life.

My stepdad came into my life when I was 13. He loved my mom and I so much. He did not have to be a dad to me, but he became the best dad. He would help me in any way that I needed him to. He did not ask any questions. He became a better dad than my biological father. I knew he cared about me and wanted the best for me. He always made me feel special. I was never left out of anything. I consider him my dad and my children call him their grandpa. He treats them like they were his own. They can do no wrong in his eyes. I respect him and his influence has made me a better person.

Amy is my best friend. She and I have been friends since 3rd grade. We really became close in 7th grade. We would spend every weekend at each other's houses and she has been like a sister to me. I can tell her anything and I know she will encourage me, help me, guide me, and just be there for me. Whenever I am feeling depressed or troubled, I can go to her and she will listen. She makes me feel special because she listens and is always there when I need her. She influenced me to make a career out of teaching. It was her passion and it became my passion too. She and I have a lot of fun memories together. We always went on vacations together. It was great seeing the country with my best friend. She and I are still best friends and she continues to influence and encourage me. She is still there whenever I need a friend. I know she always will be.

    Some of my favorite Quotes

Here are some of my favorite quotes about children and teaching children.

You can learn many things from children. How much patience you have, for instance. ~Franklin P. Jones
"We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today."- Stacia Tauscher

"Tell me and I forget. Show me and I remember. Involve me and I understand."- Chinese proverb

"A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.- Henry Adams

    My favorite Children's Book

I have so many favorite children's books that I love to read to my children and my students.  I am obsessed with Harry Potter, however I don't really consider Harry Potter a children's book anymore.  It is too dark for young children in my opinion.  One of my other personal favorites that I always read to my students is "The Big Orange Splot" by Daniel Manus Pinkwater.  This is the story about a man that lives on a street where all the houses are the same.  One day a seagull flies over and drops a bucket of orange paint on Mr. Plumbeans's house.  So his house isn't like the others anymore.  Mr. Plumbean decides that he wants to be different and he paints his house and soon all his neighbors change their homes too.  It is a really good story with a great meaning.  I always tell my students that they can be like Mr. Plumbean.  They do not have to be like everyone else.  They can be different and that it is ok.  I think "The Big Orange Splot" is a wonderful children's story.

    Child's Drawing

This drawing was done by my son, Hunter.  He is three and we have been practicing on drawing a person for a few months now.  This is the first time he was able to draw a picture without any help of himself, his daddy, little brother, and me.  It is very special to me because my son has worked very hard on learning to do this and he was finally able to do it.  He was very proud of his success.
